Technologically Speaking
With the first pandemic lockdown, at the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak, the Israeli public increased online shopping activity, buying exceptional and very unexpected quantities, which led to a shortage in different chains and stores around the country. Shufersal's desire to supply products and perhaps some relief for its customers gave birth to a creative solution: the "Quick Shopping Cart", containing a list of about 170 basic products (dairy products, favorite puddings, rice, pastas, and more), which are regularly purchased by most homes in Israel. The Quick Shopping Cart enabled users to place orders quickly and easily, even if they were not accustomed to online shopping, with same-day or next-day delivery, at a time when most other food chains delivery times increased, in some cases, to two weeks from the order date!
The complex development included integrated services and interfaces, and connection to the three main new logistics centers which were established in record time, specifically for this purpose. While the chain's existing branches and infrastructure had a hard time meeting the demand, Shufersal managed to deliver as promised on the same day or the next morning thanks to our fast response with the right digital solution.
The development teams were all invested and involved, working hard around the clock, so we could get the service up and running within a week! Development included extensive interfaces and integrations with the pick-up and delivery services as well as with the "scan and buy" terminals (located in some branches to enable customers to accumulate products they scan off the shelf into their bill), to make them usable in the newly established logistic centers.
When the Quick Shopping Cart service was available, a huge number of new customers subscribed and joined Shufersal, to enjoy the immediate service, making purchases on a scale never before seen in Israel.
