How we developed Israel's No. 1 eCommerce app
Technologically Speaking
This app interfaces with complex SAP processes while it’s managed on a remote platform, where developments and integrations are taken care of. The app serves Shufersal's hundreds of thousands of online customers as well as over a million club members.
We constantly work on the app in collaboration with various internal teams, whether on the server-side or the client-side, solving challenges, making adjustments for regulatory requirements, responding to customer needs, constantly aligning with information security requirements, upgrading versions, adding features, making adjustments to improve customers experience, and any other need which is required in the ongoing operation of such a huge app.
We delivered a powerful technological system in a simple-to-use application. The interfaces don't reflect the size and complexity of the underlying system, which includes many features such as a promotions engine that calculates discounts and ensures that every customer is always updated about relevant specials; connection to dispatch services - including product collection, packaging at the branches and at logistics centers; a drivers' app; managing the deliveries fleet; deliveries route-management; customer service; personal area for all club members, and more.
A realcommerce team is working in-house at Shufersal, and is responsible for the ongoing development of the app, to provide the Chain's customers with a personal shopping experience through a strong connection to the branches and the information and databases. The app shows customers their list of favorite products, shopping history, built-in lists created based on the customer's shopping history whether physically at the branch or online, advanced virtual search, as well as display of actual product location in branches via a planogram, viewing product categories, segmentation of purchases and more, all fully accessible.
We expanded the digital services in branches, so the app can also help customers physically locate items on the shelves, see valid promotions for the type of Chain branch they're in, provide orientation for the visually impaired at the branch and additional features.

UX – The Numbers Tell The Story
Numbers tend to speak loudest. Since the launch of the app, the number of organizations using it has grown exponentially. The best indication about the excellent and intuitive nature of the UX is the fact that most of these organizations use the self-service mode of the app.

Technology!
To meet Shufersal's need to update the application frequently and independently from approval by the app stores, we developed a hybrid app, implementing the client-side with the vue.js library. The app integrates with the server-side through many web services developed by realcommerce in several protocols, including JSON, REST API and more. The app's search engine is based on Apache Solr.
